Fritz Riedl (1923–2012) belongs to that generation of Austrian artists who made a significant contribution to the reorientation of Austrian art after the Second World War. As an outstanding representative of modern textile art, he played a major role in liberating tapestry art from the realm of traditional craftsmanship and establishing it as an independent form of visual art.
With his unique combination of color, form and textile structure, Riedl created an extensive and valuable body of work that gained international recognition.
His participation in major international exhibitions, as well as his work as an artist and professor, made him a defining figure in the art world.
