OIL PAINTINGS

Painting formed the starting point of Fritz Riedl’s artistic work. At the beginning, he created numerous figurative paintings before increasingly turning toward abstraction. Some works from the post-war period emerged as an artistic means of processing his wartime experiences. Over the years, he developed a distinctive visual language characterized by geometric forms, harmonious areas of color, and balanced compositions. Many of the ideas and motifs that later shaped his tapestries first emerged in his paintings. His oil paintings document the development of his artistic work—from the early figurative works to his characteristic abstract compositions.
